Then, without warning, he was completely weak, couldn&#8217;t stand, and his gums had turned completely white. His family didn&#8217;t hesitate. They rushed him to Harvest Emergency Room in the middle of the night.<br \/>What they didn&#8217;t know yet was just how close it would be.<br \/><br \/>\ud83c\udfe5 Arriving at the ER \u2014 A Life Hanging in the Balance<br \/>When our emergency team received Bobby, his condition was critical:<br \/>\ud83d\udd34 Completely unable to stand \ud83d\udd34 Rapid, severely laboured breathing \ud83d\udd34 Abdomen visibly distended<br \/>Our emergency team immediately performed a bedside ultrasound (POCUS) \u2014 and found Bobby&#8217;s abdominal cavity filled with fluid. An abdominal tap confirmed the worst: it was fresh blood.<br \/>Bobby was in severe internal haemorrhage. Blood work revealed critical metabolic acidosis with markers of severe tissue hypoxia. The cause: a ruptured splenic tumour that wasn&#8217;t stopping bleeding. Every minute counted.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>\u23f3 ICU \u2014 Fighting Through the Night<br \/>Bobby was rushed into our ICU for emergency resuscitation. Through the night, our Emergency &amp; Critical Care team worked relentlessly:<br \/>\ud83d\udc89 IV fluids to support his blood pressure<br \/>\ud83d\udc8a Tranexamic acid to help control the bleeding.<br \/>\ud83d\udd34 Close monitoring of red blood cell levels for potential blood transfusions<br \/>\ud83e\ude7a Continuous monitoring of blood oxygen saturation, lactate, and anaemia markers<br \/>\ud83e\udd32 Around-the-clock nursing care \u2014 every hour, without exception<br \/>Slowly, Bobby&#8217;s body began to respond. His lactate levels crept back into a safe range. The bleeding stabilised. A precious surgical window had opened.<br \/><br \/>\ud83d\udd2a Surgery \u2014 The Moment of Truth<br \/>The operation was performed by Dr. Eric Tiong.
