Is surgery risky for older animals?

It is generally accepted that surgery in older animals is as safe as it is in younger animals, provided no major co-morbidities exist. We often use the phrase that “Age is not a disease”, and so if your elderly animal has a recommendation for surgery, it is because our team has assessed them thoroughly, and determined that the expected benefits of the surgery outweigh any possible risk.
