Foreign Body Ingestion [Porsche]

Dogs and cats—especially puppies and kittens—are naturally curious. They love to explore new or moving objects, but this curiosity can sometimes lead them into trouble‼️

Meet little Porsche😸

Porsche is a 4-month-old Domestic Shorthair kitten. One day, her owner noticed that one of the buttons on her cardigan sweater had gone missing. Her son later mentioned that he saw Porsche playing with it two nights earlier. Concerned, the owner quickly brought Porsche to Harvest Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital (HVSEH) for assessment🔍.

X-rays were promptly taken, revealing that the missing button was sitting inside Porsche’s stomach.

Our veterinarians🧑‍⚕️ first attempted to induce vomiting, but Porsche was unable to expel the button. Therefore, they performed gastric endoscopy, a minimally invasive procedure in which a flexible tube with a camera and retrieval device is passed through the mouth into the stomach. This allows veterinarians to locate and safely remove objects that should not be inside the body.

Had the owner not sought treatment early, the situation could have progressed to a more serious condition requiring intensive hospitalization.
