At Harvest Emergency and Critical Care, we see many animals in need of urgent attention. Knowing the signs of a true emergency can help you act quickly and potentially save your animal’s life.

Some of the most common emergencies include breathing difficulties, collapse, seizures, severe vomiting or diarrhea, and trauma such as being hit by a car or falling from a height. Animals who are struggling to breathe, have pale gums, or appear suddenly weak should be assessed immediately.
Toxin ingestion is another frequent emergency. Human medications, chocolate, grapes, lilies, rat bait, and certain household chemicals can be extremely dangerous to animals. If you suspect your animal has ingested something harmful, seek veterinary care straight away—do not wait for symptoms to appear.
Other urgent conditions include urinary blockages (especially in male cats), uncontrolled bleeding, severe pain, abdominal bloating, and heatstroke. In cats and dogs, subtle signs such as hiding, restlessness, or not eating can also indicate serious illness.
If you are ever unsure, it is always safer to have your animal checked. Our Harvest Emergency and Critical Care team is available to provide prompt, compassionate care when your animal needs it most♥️.
