Dr. Stephen Martin

Dr. Stephen graduated from University College Dublin (UCD) in Ireland in 2013, having previously attained a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry from University College Cork (Ireland).

 

Following graduation, Dr. Stephen undertook a clinical rotation in a referral hospital in the United Kingdom, followed by a period in general and emergency practice. He then completed a surgery-specific internship. In 2016, he began his residency in small animal surgery at UCD, completing his training in 2020 along with his doctoral thesis on canine antebrachial biomechanics.

 

Following his residency, Dr. Stephen served as an assistant professor of small animal surgery at UCD before moving to a specialist private referral practice. He earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medical Specialisation (DVMS) and successfully passed the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) specialist board examinations in July 2021, becoming a diplomate of the ECVS.

 

Dr. Stephen currently works as a remote surgical consultant in Europe and Asia, in addition to his role as a Specialist in Small Animal Surgeon at HVSEH. He manages a diverse caseload of orthopaedic, soft tissue, and neurosurgical conditions, with particular focus on trauma, emergency surgery, and oncologic surgery. He has authored and co-authored scientific papers and textbook chapters on veterinary surgery while he maintains a keen attitude in training undergraduate and postgraduate veterinarians. Dr. Stephen is a registered specialist in small animal surgery with the EBVS, the Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI), the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), and the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Hong Kong (VSBHK).
