Benson’s Brave Battle Against Cancer: A Story of Precision Cancer Care and Hope at HVOC

Meet Benson, a courageous 14-year-old mongrel who recently triumphed over a challenging cancer treatment course with the help of Harvest Veterinary Oncology Center (HVOC). His journey is a testament to the power of advanced veterinary cancer care and the unwavering bond between animals and their families.

Benson’s Diagnosis

Benson is a family member of the Hong Kong Paws Foundation. He was diagnosed with an aggressive tonsillar squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) that had spread to his retropharyngeal lymph node. Due to the tumor’s size and location, surgery wasn’t an option, but Benson’s family refused to give up. They turned to HVOC for cutting-edge treatment.

A Tailored Treatment Plan

HVOC’s multidisciplinary team designed a comprehensive palliative radiation therapy (RT) plan to shrink the tumor and improve Benson’s quality of life. He underwent 6 sessions of advanced Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), combined with carboplatin as a radiosensitizer to enhance the treatment’s effectiveness.

Remarkable Results

By the final session, Benson’s attending doctor, Specialist in Oncology, Dr. Antonio Giuliano, was excited to find out that Benson’s tumor had shrunk remarkably—and more importantly, he was pain-free and eating well! Benson’s resilience and the dedication of HVOC’s multidisciplinary team made this success possible.

What’s Next?

Benson will return for a follow-up check with Dr. Antonio in 2 weeks to monitor his progress. His story is far from over, and HVOC will be with him every step of the way.
