【Case Sharing】spinal tumour – From Limited Mobility to Running Again: Niki’s Multidisciplinary Success Story

We are thrilled to celebrate a remarkable milestone for Niki, a vivacious 11-year-old Boxer X 🐶

Recently, Niki faced a suspected spinal tumour alongside significant joint pain. The combination of lower back stiffness and severe incoordination in his hind limbs made even standing up a struggle, deeply impacting his mobility and overall quality of life.

Restoring Niki’s joy required a precise, collaborative approach:

Specialised Pain Management

To ensure Niki was comfortable enough for advanced treatment, Dr. Christopher Sun (Specialist in Anaesthesia and Analgesia) at the Animal Pain Relief Centre (APRC) developed a tailored pain management plan.

Targeted Oncology

Once his pain was stabilized, Dr. Katrina Sun (Specialist in Veterinary Oncology) successfully guided Niki through five fractions of palliative radiation therapy.

The Result: More Than Just Comfort ☁️

Niki isn’t just “comfortable”—he is back to exploring the city he loves. His owner, Paul, recently shared this heartwarming update:

I just want to update Dr. Katrina, Dr. Chris, and the staff on how Niki is doing. We live near the Happy Valley Racecourse; a year and a half ago, when he started to decompensate, he could only walk one-twentieth of the track. Yesterday, he enthusiastically completed the racecourse and even led us to the nearby HK Stadium! We kept walking until I finally insisted we go home.

At Harvest Veterinary Oncology Centre, our mission is about more than treating tumours; it is about restoring an animal’s joy, mobility, and vitality 🩵. Niki’s journey inspires us to continue advancing veterinary oncology and striving for the best possible outcomes for every patient.
